Mary Aaroe
Developer & Energy Expert


Mary graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012 with a B.S.P.H. in Environmental Sciences and Engineering and a minor in Anthropology. In school she held leadership roles in sustainable community gardening efforts and graduated as a Public Service Scholar. Mary participated in a renewable energy-focused study abroad program in Bangkok, Thailand during which she researched the effects of the country’s palm biodiesel industry on regional water availability.

After graduation, Mary spent time in New Orleans volunteering with a wetlands restoration and rebuilding-focused non-profit in the Lower Ninth Ward. This experience influenced her love for the city and desire to be a part of its future.

On the Real New Energy team since November of 2012, Mary has engaged in various built environment, urban sustainability and food access consulting and development projects. As a member of RNE’s Sustainable Urban Development team, Mary has scouted and developed concepts for various projects in DC and New Orleans.

 Mary is the director of RNE’s subsidiary company, EmPower Cities’ in New Orleans.
